My Bio

I love travel, culture, language, science, engineering, and most especially art! I'm a really good team builder and as diverse in my knowledge as I am in my interests. Because of my disability I value candor above all else and I feel that it's super important to communicate well. I can't reliably use the voice that I was born with, but it has never stopped me from speaking.

My favourite games to make are virtual pet games and avatar forum-based games. My favourite games to play are strategy and resource economy games, particularly older ones from the turn of the century. I love Starcraft, Terraria, Freelancer, and StarBound. I do miss the peak days of forum-based games like Gaia. The first game I ever made was snake when I was 11, which we programmed on "brand new" computers for our school using C++ and DOS.

I started doing art when I was 7 and I was pretty terrible at it for a really long time. At 19 I started doing freelance work and that's when I really understood the industry, client's needs, and how it all played into my own drive to do art. I did a lot of outsourcing both as a client and as a contractor, working in cycles on personal projects and professional contracts. I never stop learning. I've studied some aspect of every type of art and I love it all. My recent passion has been leather modeling. I've always had a keen eye for 3D mediums, volume and forms.

While freelancing I enrolled as an English major at Salt Lake Community College. I excelled at technical writing, which followed a similar pattern to my art. My technical skills have always been top notch, but working creatively was a struggle that took me years to overcome. In college I failed creative writing 4 times and finally had to settle for a General Education degree. It was a misfortune that creative writing was the only class I needed to finish my English degree. Later when I got a Bachelor's in Game Art I took creative writing a 5th time and passed with a C. One of my proudest days. I'm presently working on a novel, which I suspect will have similar struggles.

My mother calls this bull-headed stubborness. But I see it as a challenge to overcome that brings me a lot of joy. It would be easy to settle into a life where I only did what I was good at, but that life would be droll, lonely and heartless. I'm driven as an artist and I'm inspired by history, math, language, friends, logography, symbolism, love, pain, fear, and every human experience under the sun. My art often reflects the fleeting nature of life and my internal need to care for others and our beautiful planet.

Aside from my novel, I'm also working on a permaculture design for my mountain homestead. Seated at a 7,000 foot peak I intend to convert its windy, desert climate to a temperate mountainside orchard. I'm a huge fan of manual mechanics and waterflow technology. Windmills, Archemedes' screws, bell siphons, and Incan terraces make me giddy as a school child. I've built 2 tiny houses retrofitted with simple solar setups and positioned for the best view. I'm in progress on a house design that caters to the environment, angled to withstand hurricane level winds and utilizing natural materials to survive the regular wildfires of the area from our changing climate. My disability has taught me the value of acceptance and accommodation as tools for overwhelming change.

Giving back to my community is very important to me. I've helped organize events of massive teams designing, streamlining, and building RV solar setups for the homeless, displaced, and other nomadic people. I traveled for a good decade and it was a joy to explore the Western US, northern Mexico, and Taiwan. I'm so glad I was able to do that in my youth. I didn't have much, but I certainly made the most of what I had. Now, in my late 30's I'm finding a different type of peace in stability with my supportive husband and extended family.

Wherever I am, I always make the most of every opportunity. I savour life and often find value in things that others miss. I've been described as an intense person which I think is brilliant! I'm incredibly driven and high on life, no substances needed. Just friendship, family, and purpose.
